Every now and then a car comes along which changes people's perceptions, shapes the industry and moves everything on to the next level - could the VIBE R8 be such a car?

Let's get the obvious out the way - it is a stunningly beautiful creation. The Audi designers have worked their magic and penned what must be the most awesomely styled car to come to ever roll off the production line. There are not enough superlatives to describe its swooping rear end, aggressive front and those headlights - if you see them coming up behind you on the motorway you know fine well that you should be getting your ass into that inside lane and out of the way. It just oozes style, class and menace.

With those points in mind you can see why it was the choice of VIBE as their new flagship demonstration vehicle for 2008 - especially when its job is to showcase their premier range of speakers.

Most people would think twice about ripping a brand new supercar to bits but upon delivery it was swiftly rolled into the VIBE workshop where the special projects team set about creating a masterpiece which was fit for the vehicle. With room very much limited a very simple install was selected - a set of components in the front doors, a single subwoofer, some speakers for rear fill and then two amplifiers to power it all were all that could be squeezed in.

The VIBE R8 won BEST DEMO CAR at CAR EXPO show 2008. Taking its first show by storm by coming away with the the 'Car of the Show' trophy. The Judges were blown away with the stunning sleek design and sound of this prestigious Super Car.

With all of the best of the UK's audio demo cars on display it's a great honour to take this award.

So what products to go for? Well the components were obvious, the only thing fit for a vehicle of this nature was the brand new SPACE 3D range. These lovingly crafted 3 way speakers feature ultra thin 0.15mm thick alloy cones meaning they are ultra light, but also very strong. Designed with no compromise in mind these offer proper SQ reproduction - the 45mm mid and silk dome supertweeter ensure that high frequencies are clear, defined and controlled - creating a perfect soundstage. The custom door builds are exceptionally neat and tidy - so tidy in fact that if you didn't know they were custom you would swear that the speakers had just been bolted into the standard positions.

The SPACE 3D speakers are powered by two channels of a BlackBox Stereo 4 amplifier. This Class A/B power unit supplies 110w RMS on each of its four channels but does so with maximum clarity - the signal to noise ratio is 110db!

The other 2 channels of the Stereo 4 are running the two SPACE 8 speakers which sit behind the seats. These again have the same ultra light and ultra thin cone as the SPACE 3D and supply midrange from behind to integrate the entire sound.

The SPACE 8 speakers sit in a custom made enclosure which also is home to the SPACE 12 subwoofer. The installation is a work of art and looks like it could have been designed by the Audi engineers rather than VIBE - all a testament to the skills and dedication of the Special Projects team.

With the subwoofer being directly behind the drivers left ear the main obstacle was ensuring that it made as little noise and distortion as possible. By their nature subwoofers create some excess noise - through the amount of air that the cone is moving. To combat this the subwoofer was fitted into a very small, fully sealed enclosure. It is not there to rattle your fillings out either - it is there to add warmth to the music and to complete the sound - which it does perfectly.

The overall sound is one of integration. Sitting with your eyes closed in the driver's seat you could easily be sitting in front of Dire Straits as they play Money for Nothing or Michael Jackson as he struts his stuff to Billie Jean. The sound is enjoyable and involving - I would almost go as far as to say inspirational.

If you ever get a chance to listen to it jump at it - with this car VIBE have certainly raised the standards.
